Senior Business Systems Analyst
Overview of the position: As a member of the Information Technology team in partnership with Engineering, the Senior Business Systems Analyst for Engineering is responsible for:
Understanding Engineering workflows and needs. Mapping current workflows, technologies, data use and data flows. Identifying and recommending improvements as they relate to the use of technology and data.
Understanding Client workflows and needs, especially as they relate to Engineering. This includes both upstream (e.g. Business Development, Estimating, Initial Design, etc.) and downstream (e.g. Production, Inventory, Construction, Accounting, etc.) work and data flows. Mapping the interfaces (both process and technology based) between departments and functions, especially as they relate to Engineering. Identifying and recommending improvements as they relate to the use of technology and data across the organization.
Partnering with IT peers to understand Client's technology infrastructure to ensure Engineering solutions are optimally deployed, especially considering system availability, performance, security and interfacing with other Client systems. Advocate for Engineering within IT.
Leveraging industry standard tools to ensure optimal selection, deployment, integration and adoption of technology within the Engineering function.

Map current work and data flow through the Engineering department.
Identify and document technologies used in support of the Engineering function including titles, versions, cost, training requirements (i.e. learning curve), etc.
Document and recommend improvements in the way Engineering leverages technology. Recommendations may include, but are not necessarily limited to, creation of standards, elimination of redundant software, replacement of existing software, automation of work and/or data flows, implementation of industry best practices, training and/or mentoring programs, process re-engineering, etc.
Document, measure and report objective cost benefits including, but not limited to ROIs, Paybacks, Reduced Engineering Hours, Reduced Time to Market, Improved Quality, Improved Downstream Productivity, etc.
Ensure Customer Satisfaction score of 4.5 (out of 5) or better within Engineering.
Preferred Education and Experience
4-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
Accomplished Business Analyst Certification (e.g. CBAP, CBATL, PMI-PBA, etc.) is a plus.
Industry affiliations (e.g. IIBA, PMI, AGC, etc.) are a plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Solid grasp of the Civil Engineering field and technologies used to support it. This includes, but is not limited to, CAD and BIM technologies such as AutoCAD, Revit and Tekla.
Proven success mapping work and data flows using techniques including swim lane diagrams, work flow diagrams, data flow diagrams, RACI charts, etc.
Proven success leveraging standard Project Management skills including, but not limited to, Stakeholder Analysis, Requirements Gathering, Planning, Execution and Risk Management.
Experience leveraging standard Program Management skills including Cost Benefit Analysis, ROI and Payback calculations, Project Prioritization, Portfolio Management and managing other Project Managers.
Business Analysis: Proven ability to understand and document business needs, workflow, data flow and roles and responsibilities. Proven ability to perform cost benefit analyses and effectively recommend and drive change. Experience with industry standard tools such as decision making tools/models, RACI charts, swim lane diagrams, work and data flow diagrams, etc.
Project Management: Proven ability to identify and manage key stakeholders, elicit and document requirements, define and manage scope, identify and manage resources, define and manage budgets and schedules, manage risk and facilitate meetings. Experience with industry standard tools such as Project, Smart Sheets, Planner, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office 365, etc.
Program Management: Proven ability to negotiate and manage priorities, manage multiple projects, manage project managers, etc.
Systems Analysis: General understanding of technical infrastructures including basic understanding of application, file and database servers; networks and firewalls; service provisioning; service support; systems operations and maintenance; access management and control; software licensing; and cyber security.
Engineering: General understanding of Civil Engineering including drafting, modeling, etc.
Communication: Solid written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present confidently in front of large audiences. Proven ability to listen and understand. Proven ability to persuade and reach agreement.
Teamwork: Proven ability to work effectively as a team member and a team leader. Demonstrate value to the team. Hold yourself accountable for the timely delivery of quality results. Be a trusted partner. Help teammates as appropriate.
