Design Engineer

Contract position: Tool Design Engineer needed in Fletcher NC to assist the entire facility with current design techniques that support manufacturing practices, processes, procedures, facilities, tools and equipment for production to achieve safety, quality, productivity, environmental and financial objectives. Position estimated to last 6 months, possible extension. This position supports or directly impacts the overall performance metrics for the plant. Apply Now!

Responsibilities for the Design Engineer

  • Design new or improve existing machines, fixtures, tooling, structures and gaging to support production improvements

  • Ability to design complex assemblies and create detailed dimensioned drawings in a 3D CAD solid modeling program

  • Serves as primary liaison with cross-function Product Development Teams providing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) input for new products, and acting as the primary interface and transition of new product to a full production environment

  • Design and implement efficient processes using lean manufacturing principles, to enable single piece flow in a pull system philosophy for existing products or new product launches as appropriate

  • Conduct assessments of existing or proposed manufacturing processes to provide focused improvement opportunities to increase production efficiencies, eliminate waste, reduce inventory, reduce lead times, increase quality and improve safety and ergonomics

Requirements for the Design Engineer

  • An undergraduate degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering is required, advanced degree is a plus

  • 3+ heavy manufacturing production environment to include product launch experience

  • Previous experience with lean manufacturing methods and Toyota Production System based manufacturing

  • Prior experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives desired

  • CAD experience a must
