SQL Database Administrator (DBA) - Rochester, New York
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Supports the administration of Microsoft SQL servers for a growing organization.
Maintains database by identifying and solving database requirements; supporting users.
Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
Install and configure new SQL Servers.
Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors.
When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes.
Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
Test backups to ensure we can meet the business Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.
Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities.
Other duties, as assigned.

Microsoft SQL Server experience required
Must be detail oriented with a team-oriented, collaborative attitude
Proven analytical, evaluative and problem solving abilities
Self-motivated and directed
Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings for special projects
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Four year degree in computer science/information systems or four years related work experience.
Knowledge of systems development techniques focused on the Windows 2008 R2 server environment and above and SQL 2008 Server database and above
SQL Server programming experience preferred
