We in the WA office of Randstad Technologies & Embedded Engineering are looking for a Senior RF Materials Scientist for one of our clients in the greater Seattle area.

This engineer will be responsible for leading liquid crystal development activities. These include applied research into radio frequency liquid crystals (LC), focused product development in cooperation with external partners, and supporting supply-chain management and vendor qualification. The role is multi-disciplinary, requiring a background in electromagnetics, microwave engineering, materials science, and hands-on lab work.


  • Experience with the dielectric characterization of materials at microwave frequencies

  • Expertise in modeling coupled physical systems using custom code or multi-physics tools, such as COMSOL

  • Competency with full-wave microwave design tools, such as Ansoft HFSS or CST Microwave Studio

  • Ability to design and build test structures, fixtures, and lab apparatus

  • Strong project management skills

  • Excellent communication abilities, including verbal and written communication, the willingness to discuss questions or uncertainties in job assignments, and the ability to positively interact with co-workers


  • Ability to communicate information using standard Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, Office, Power Point, Project and Visio

  • Ability to use company-wide tools and systems to execute the key duties and responsibilities of the job


  • Minimum 10 years experience in microwave engineering

  • Managing an engineering project team in a matrixed engineering environment

  • Experience with electromagnetic metamaterial structures and surfaces a plus

  • Experience with antenna array design a plus


  • M.S. or higher from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field


  • Develop and execute a project plan for continued RF liquid crystal development

  • Develop a suite of characterization tools and lab infrastructure necessary to qualify the key performance parameters of liquid crystal materials

  • Manage external partner and vendor relationships

  • Manage the development and execution of the LC qualification test plan
