Our client has an opportunity for a Business Analyst in Sacramento, CA.

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst is a team member (possibly leader and/or mentor) within a BI team or project providing full life cycle analysis and possibly project management for new and existing BI solutions. Mentorship and guidance to other developers, as well as project management, may be required. Candidates will be responsible for analysis, design, testing, and implementation for healthcare related BI solutions (data warehouse / data marts). Candidates need to be self-directed and able to tackle analysis and business problems with little or no guidance.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead or participate in project startup, scoping, and requirements gathering

  • Analyze, Design, unit test, and help implement BI applications

  • Track project risks / issues and escalate to team or client as needed

  • Contribute to the reviews of business requirements documentation and other deliverables

  • Ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and thoroughness of requirements documentation and other deliverables

  • Create and track high level project plans, facilitate meetings, manage small teams of developers

  • Report status to team leads and client



Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent.


  • At least five years experience with application development projects.

  • Experience with health care systems unless experience exceeds eight years

  • At least 5 years experience working as a senior business systems analyst with a focus on BI application development.

  • Project management experience and the ability to lead other analysts across multiple projects.

  • Deep understanding of complex requirements analysis including both business and functional requirements.

  • Experience using requirements gathering techniques such as "Use Cases", Prototyping, JAD, and conducting interviews.

  • Experience working within a "Waterfall" SDLC and Agile processes.

  • Experience working with software development teams to create system designs based on formal requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Technical writing and presentation skills are especially important.

  • Knowledge and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite, including, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Excel.

  • Experience with database schemas and models

  • Experience with SQL, relational databases, and reporting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to provide accurate work estimates and deliver projects on schedule.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to mentor, and have strong analytical and technical documentation skills.

Other Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NAC / SF85P)

  • Must be able to work locally in Sacramento, CA area either full time or with significant travel (50%)
