Engineering client is looking for two Substation Protection & Control Engineers with 3-10 years of experience performing substation protection, control and communications design for high voltage (69kV or above) electrical substation projects. These are contract positions with an opportunity to go direct for the right candidate. * pay rate is commensurate with experience *

Responsibilities for the Substation Engineer

  • Perform substation protection, control & communications engineering as part of a team to support turn-key engineering, project management, & construction efforts

  • Create/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable lists for high voltage (69-500kV) substations

  • Develop equipment specifications for protection, control, and communications equipment in the substation

  • Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such power transformers, power circuit breakers, control house, and other high-voltage substation related materials

  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA Engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff in order to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems

  • Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit with minimal supervision

  • Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems

Requirements for the Substation Engineer

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering, a FE or EIT is mandatory and PE license would be a huge plus

  • 3-10 years of experience designing protection & control systems (relays & metering) for high voltage substations

  • You need experience with microprocessor based protective relays

  • Perform system analyses including relay coordination, grounding, load flow, short circuit, and stability & power quality studies for high voltage substations

  • Use software applications (SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, etc...) for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and load flow and short circuit studies

  • Ability to prepare relay panel specifications and relay setting calculations

  • Experience with advanced high voltage substation protective relaying, carrier schemes, telecommunications, and SCADA
