Cost Accountant

Irvine, CA


Performs professional general accounting, cost accounting and financial analysis and reporting. Requires thorough knowledge of cost accounting methods, principles and practices. Computes unit cost of company products or services, establishing cost standards and evaluating business processes for opportunities for improvements. Develops basis of allocation of overhead expenses and prepares product line P&L s, providing assistance to the general accounting function as necessary.


  • Prepare Journal Entries for month-end cost accounting closing.

  • Prepare General ledger reconciliation

  • Prepare cost accounting reports: labor reports/R&D project cost reports/service profitability reports

  • Maintain integrity of inventory detail balance at moving average cost/standard cost on monthly basis

  • Plan and direct physical inventory count with cost team.

  • Plan and direct physical inventory count reconciliations for all segments

  • Plan and lead annual standard cost roll

  • Perform annual standard cost variance (current to New Year) analysis by segment at year end with cost team

  • Support segments in developing standard unit costs for direct materials, labor and overhead.

  • Develop annual Material Burden Rate and Freight & Duty rate

  • Perform analysis of product and project costs including material & labor variances, cost center spending and labor efficiencies

  • Support quarterly audit in areas of inventory roll forwards / inventory detail consignment inventory/WIP validation and inventory revaluation to moving average/shrinkage/obsolescence

  • Responsible for pricing and purchasing variance analysis and reporting

  • Work with segments on improving efficiencies

  • Evaluate process deficiencies, formulate corrective action plans, and develop process improvements and/or procedural controls

  • Support financial reviews and audits conducted by independent auditors

  • Other general and cost accounting responsibilities and special projects as required

  • May require some limited travel to remove subsidiaries

  • Ad hoc Request / Project


  • Knowledge of general and cost accounting principles and practices.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of management.

  • Good organization skills, works well with a team (external & internal customers)

  • Self-starter, self-directed and detailed oriented individual.


  • Bachelor s degree in accounting or finance a must.

  • Minimum five years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with standard cost and job cost.

  • SAP FI/CO experience preferred.
