Immediate Need for a SR Protection and Controls Engineer in Binghamton NY to lead engineering activities for electric transmission line projects. This is a permanent position and an industry leading relocation package. Salary range listed is estimated and all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply! Will Hire ASAP!

Responsibilities for the Protection Engineer

  • Performs engineering analyses of the electric substation and transmission system and recommends actions to develop design options or recommendations for Substation and protective relay system to minimize customer outages due to equipment failure or system malfunction. Engineer detailed designs. Perform engineering calculations

  • Originates electric system and component reliability studies, outage contingency plans and capital budget proposals including a complete business case. Determines corrective action for operating deficiencies

  • Recommends system improvements, develops economic project proposals for improvements and provides project management for major substations band transmission construction projects

  • Develops and validates information needed for engineering analyses and applies engineering judgement to solve complex technical problems. Directs engineering contractors and consultants

  • Demonstrates new technology and implements it to enhance power system performance. Provides power system commissioning support and supervision when required

Requirements for the Protection Engineer

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 4+ years experience in engineering design and commissioning of protection and control of substation or related projects ranging from 30kV up to 345 kV

  • Experience performing circuit analysis including voltage drop capacitor and regular siting and performing fault duty/motor start status

  • Specialized knowledge of technical aspects and standards with regards to the protection and control design in substations ranging from 30kV up to 345 kV

  • Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, and commissioning of protection and control equipment on transmission network

  • Knowledge of running and analyzing electric power load flows

  • Professional engineering license or EIT preferred
