General Summary of Position:
The Sr. Systems Engineer is part of the Digital Tech DevOps team and is responsible for the design of the system architecture, server infrastructure management and advanced technical support. The Sr. Systems Engineer provides technical leadership required to effectively deliver high-quality, timely IT solutions and services that meet business needs.
The Digital Tech Application Support team is dedicated to supporting the businesses digital brand experience by providing infrastructure solutions, integrating applications, monitoring performance and security issues, and automating software build and release capabilities. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a voracious appetite for learning new technologies, improving processes, collaborating across disciplines, and trying cutting edge solutions.
Work is performed in a 24/7 operations environment. Must be available to work weekends and holidays on an on call basis.
Collaborates with architects across functions to help set architectural direction for delivering highly reliable, scalable, and operable solutions.
Partners with development teams, DBAs and QA in a DevOps model of agile development process.
Demonstrates entrepreneurial perspective in the ideation and implementation of products and services to accelerate growth.
Transforms business ideas into implementable technology solutions, considering build, buy and partnering alternatives
Make decisions which may have a broad impact and influence the organizational direction.
Rapidly adapt to new and changing situations to quickly solve problems and find new directions
Drives continuous improvement - design, definition of roadmaps, standardization of processes and methodologies
Rotational 24 hours on call support
Essential Job Functions:
Experience designing secure solutions at scale and with performance
Experience with automation and configuration management tools (Preferred: Chef and/or Ansible)
Experience with public cloud services and deployment (Preferred: AWS experience)
Strong development experience in one of these languages - Python, and/or Ruby.
Knowledge of the software development lifecycle
Strong ability to troubleshoot complex issues ranging from system resources to application stack traces
Experienced user of one or more source code management tools
Strong hands-on experience in building and maintaining infrastructure for micro services
Experience with Continuous Integration, continuous delivery/deployment tools like Jenkins, Bamboo, or similar
Strong belief in driving operational excellence with owning efficiency and automation at the core of operations
Proven ability to drive systems optimizations on large scale infrastructure.
OBSESSIVE desire to automate and improve everything including process improvements, standardizing tools and technologies
Must have/Basic Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows
Experience integrating Open Source tools and software
Experience with TCP/IP, DNS, Routing, VLANS, layer 2 and layer 3 networking, AWS, VPN and other networking concepts
Experience with VMWare, Vagrant, Packer, Docker, or Rocket is a definite plus
Experience with Database Technologies SQL Server and MySQL
Experience with APIs
Experience with monitoring tools like New Relic, AppDynamic, Nagios or similar
Excellent TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS and networking knowledge and experience
Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in highly complex systems and drive performance optimizations
Working knowledge of enterprise storage technologies and protocols (NFS, CIFS, ISCI, FCP)
