Title: Senior CDN Engineer
Performs evaluation testing on all hardware and software components for new product offerings, network growth and/or customer-specific applications. Plans, designs, and tests complex data networks including individual components and interoperability of multiple network elements. May perform operational efficiency reviews and develop plans for improvements as necessary. At higher levels, conducts strategic network assessments based upon emerging network trends, technologies, and/or future service offerings and develops plans to address needs.
Conducts extensive lab evaluations and integration testing of network elements and document results.
Formulates integrated data network architectures based upon demand, capacity, emerging network services, trends, and technologies
Plans future network enhancements and directions for access, metro, and national networks.
Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to field systems, design engineers, and implementation teams.
Serves as primary subject matter expert in the area of engineering specialty
Conduct engineering economic, alternative, and feasibility evaluations
Develops network element technical specifications.
Requires BS/BA in related discipline (i.e., Computer Science, Information Systems) and 5-8 years of experience in related field (i.e., Network Engineering, IP Video Delivery, Content Delivery Networks, Linux System Admin) OR MS/MA and 3-5 years of experience in related field. Will consider additional related industry experience in lieu of degree.
Minimum of 5+ years experience with Linux/BSD server administration and management.
5+ years working with TCP/UDP Protocols.
Minimum of 3+ years traffic monitoring tools - Wireshark, Sniffer, WildPackets ...etc. ?
Minimum of 3+ years experience implementing advanced, complex network designs.
TCP/IP, OSI: In-depth knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol stack and practical application of the OSI model, including packet headers, traffic flow, etc. ?
UNIX/Linux system administration : In-depth experience with most common UNIX/Linux services and system administration functions, ranging from shell sessions to specific services (such as Sendmail, Apache, X windows, user/group administration, etc.).
Content Delivery Networks (CDN) : In-depth understanding -- and working experience
DNS: In-depth to expert level understanding and substantial work experience.
HTTP/1.1: In-depth understanding.
HTTP/1.1 forward/reverse proxy: In-depth understanding.
HTTP Adaptive Bitrate video: In-depth understanding and some working experience.
MySQL admin: In-depth understanding and some working experience.
Compiled/JIT languages such as C++, Java, and Go : Good working knowledge.
LAN : In-depth knowledge of LAN administration, Ethernet hubs, switches, and cabling
WAN : Working knowledge of routing protocols in a service provider environment, specifically: OSPF, BGP, IS-IS.
Video : General understanding of video distribution in a cable environment.
