Director of Product Development and Engineering for someone with telehandler design experience to help this client create next generation telehandlers primarily EMEA and United States markets. Based in the USA this position will be responsible for customer needs analysis, stage gate product design, and initial marketing and product support launch. Client is located South of the Atlanta GA area and will consider relocation on a case by case basis although it is not required (can be home based).

Responsibilities for the Director of Product Development

  • Lead customer needs assessment using KANO process with strong focus on Voice Of Customer to confirm current and future application and customer needs.

  • Working with internal engineering and design teams to direct the design and development of new telehandling platform for use in construction, rental,and agricultural markets.(includes elements of machine design, strength of materials, welding, coatings, hydraulics and electronics.)

  • Interact with project designers from concept to production and collaborate withmanufacturing to facilitate manufacture and assembly of prototype machines.

  • Meet routinely with development and design teams to ensure design compliance to engineering standards, product quality, and product cost.

  • Communicate with lead engineers, designers and technicians, to ensure KANO product features are realized.

  • Provide technical leadership in completing assignments and projects and demonstrate creativity and mature judgment in anticipating and solving non-reoccurring, unprecedented problems.

  • Other duties as needed

Requirements for the Director of Product Development

  • BS Degree in an Engineering or Technical Discipline

  • Approximately 10 or more years experience in designing telehandlers

  • Strong understanding of telehandler design market trends focusing on product strengths and weaknesses by brand

  • Experience in developing new products in a global matrix environment with strengths focusing on needs assessment and VOC.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% domestically with occasional trips overseas as needed
